From the Bride:
We chose Cuba as our wedding destination because we went on our first vacation there as a couple and it was on that trip that I knew we were going to marry each other.
What made the wedding special was spending a week together with both sides of the family, & friends getting to know each other. In Ethiopia weddings take over a week to prepare. It is all about family, food and dancing! Traditionally, the wedding is held in two locations. The brides house organizes a big party to ‘send her off’. The grooms home would host an additional party where the bride and her family is warmly welcomed into their family followed by more food and dancing!
The neighbours chip in too, with more cooking, and a wedding becomes a celebration for everyone living nearby. Rich and I would like to thank our family and global neighbours for making our wedding so special. Our friends helped in so many ways, from cutting and polishing steel, hair and make-up assistance, purchasing guest pashminas over seas to slide shows and speeches and clapping along for our Ethiopian traditional first dance!
A special note of gratitude to a family friend named Edo for altering my wedding dress just before our flight and to Tiffany at Zing Paperie and Designs for lending her creative inspiration to design for us not only stunning invitations but cigar rings and shawl tags as well. Your work is beautiful and it helped tie our vision together.
