This beautiful wedding’s bold colour palate features one of my current colour obsessions – Indigo! Definitely a Vancouver classic, complete with stunning shoes, our beautiful westcoast scenery, and steeped in tradition. I’m also a sucker for great stationery design! Thank you to Tegan McMartin Photography for sharing these images with us!
From the bride: When we started looking at dates, we decided that we wanted to get married in the fall. A deep navy blue was our main colour and the beautiful colour of the fall foliage was our inspiration for the complementing orange. Owen was able to find a suit that was navy blue and we found navy blue dresses for the bridesmaids to continue the blue theme. We were happy with the results as it just made the orange flowers and orange sweaters on the groomsmen really pop!
We moved to Vancouver in 2007 and it’s been home to us ever since so it was an easy choice to get married here. When we sought out venues, we went with locations that were beautiful on their own and required little in terms of decorations. Cecil Green House at UBC and The Boathouse Restaurant in Kitsilano both delivered the plain and simple beauty that we were after. From the beginning we decided what was more important to us: the elegance of the locations and the ease for us. We left the expertise to those who were best at it. This was applied from Cecil Green who does a countless number of events every year and the Boathouse who serves large crowds daily to the flowers from a great little corner store flower shop KitsMart and our specially designed stationary by our friend Rebecca Wong-Rose of Freckled Stationary.
As most of the elements of our wedding did not have any Asian influence, we decided that the reception decorations provided the opportunity to incorporate Asian elements. We used mini takeout containers with our wedding logo affixed to hold our wedding favors, orange paper lanterns as our centrepieces and customized fortune cookies as name cards holders. The handy stands were delicious and a huge hit with the guests!
Our day was perfectly chronicled by the beautifully talented Tegan McMartin. We were amazed by the amount she was able to capture that day and couldn’t be happier with the results. Looking back, we wouldn’t have changed a thing.
